Qualified and experienced transpersonal psychotherapist and counsellor in Woking
I didn’t take a linear path to becoming a counsellor and psychotherapist; previously I worked in the finance and government sectors. However, as a young adult I had several years of therapy and found that this offered me support, guidance, and a ‘way in’ for deeper understanding of myself. I found that this positive experience stayed with me, influencing my later decision to train as a therapist. I now work as a counsellor in Woking. My qualifications are:
- M.A. (distinction) in Transpersonal Counselling & Psychotherapy
- Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy
- Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner; a method for treating trauma, anxiety and depression.
I have a particular interest and experience in working with trauma and abuse. Trauma translates as “wound” or “injury”, and is a natural human response to a distressing event or series of events. Body, mind and spirit does everything it can to survive the experience. However, sometimes the trauma is unable to be fully processed or healed, making it difficult to move on. People can feel stuck or trapped in the memories, flashbacks, and thoughts. The results of the trauma may impact relationships, work, sleep, appetite, and the ability to feel safe in life. I view abuse as a particular form of trauma, where one’s core sense of self is wounded or injured by another.
Counselling and psychotherapy can be an effective way of fostering and encouraging the healing process. The organisations I’ve worked for as counsellor and therapist are the Samaritans, Camden, City, Islington & Westminster Bereavement Service (CCI&WBS), Transport for London (TFL) in their Occupational Health Counselling Trauma Service, and the Fountain Centre, a charity for cancer patients, their families, and carers at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford. Aside from my private practice, I am also a trauma therapist for I’m also a trauma therapist for Noreen Tehrani Associates, Ltd., working with the Surrey, Hampshire and Thames Valley Police, and the Southeast Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). I am a registered member of the BACP and am fully insured. Some of the issues I work with are:
- Bereavement and Loss
- Family Estrangement and Abandonment
- Relationship Issues
- Self-esteem and confidence
